Summary
Gadsden LLC ("we", "us", "our") publishes Gadsden Ballistic Calculator ("the app"). We designed the app to be privacy-first by default. This policy describes what the app does and does not do with data generated or used during operation.
This policy applies to the iOS version of the app, distributed through the Apple App Store, and to the Android version when it ships on Google Play.
What we don't collect
The app never collects or transmits any of the following on its own:
- Names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information
- Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or persistent identifiers of any kind
- Usage analytics, session recordings, or crash telemetry sent to third parties
- Photos, contacts, calendar entries, or other system data
- Ballistic profiles, dope cards, handload recipes, or any user-entered content
- Firing solutions, range cards, or usage history
There are no user accounts to create, no passwords to manage, and no cloud backends operated by us. The app is fully functional without any network connection. The one way any information ever reaches us is a feedback or bug report you choose to send (section 6), and that contains only what the form shows you before you tap send.
What the app processes locally
All ballistic data you enter (rifle profiles, scope configurations, ammunition and handload recipes, zero settings, dope cards, range cards, and environmental inputs) is stored in the app's private container on your device. We never receive it. Two things can carry a copy off the device, and both belong to you: your operating system's encrypted device backup (iCloud on iOS, Google's device backup on Android), which exists so a new phone restores your armory and goes only to your own Apple or Google account; we have no access to it; and files you explicitly export yourself (for example, a range card PDF shared through the system share sheet).
Exported files are handled by your operating system, not by us. We have no visibility into where you send them.
Optional weather integration
If you enable live weather, the app makes an HTTPS request to the Open-Meteo public weather API (open-meteo.com). This request includes your approximate GPS coordinates, which are necessary to return local atmospheric data.
Open-Meteo is a third-party service operated independently of Gadsden LLC. Their privacy terms apply to that request. The app does not send any user-identifying information alongside the coordinates, and the request is made directly from your device. We do not proxy, log, or observe it.
Weather integration is optional. The solver is fully functional with manual atmospheric entry, and you can disable GPS and live weather in Settings at any time.
Kestrel weather meters
The app can connect to a Kestrel weather meter you own over Bluetooth. This is a local radio link between your phone and your meter: wind and atmospheric readings travel from the meter to the app and are used on the device for your firing solution. Nothing about this connection touches a network. We never see your readings, your meter's serial number, or the fact that you own one.
Optional feedback reports
If you choose to send feedback or a bug report from inside the app, the report is delivered to us over HTTPS. It contains your written message and, for bug reports, basic diagnostics the form shows you before you send it: device model, OS and app version, language setting, screen size, the submission time, and a screenshot only if you attach one. An email address is included only if you type one in so we can reply. Nothing is sent until you tap send, and sending nothing never limits the app.
App store analytics
Apple and Google provide aggregate, non-personal statistics to developers about app downloads, crashes, and store-page impressions. These statistics are generated by the store platforms themselves and are not attributable to individual users by us. We do not operate our own analytics or telemetry on top of them.
Data retention & deletion
Because the app sends us nothing on its own, there is generally no retained data to delete. All app-local data is removed when you delete the app from your device (your own device backup follows your Apple/Google account settings). Feedback reports you chose to send are kept only as long as needed to act on them. Email hello@gadsden.io and we will delete yours on request.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from any user, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will publish a new version at the URL where you found this one and update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
